Within this group, I support Lallemand's business units and corporate R&D by coordinating microbial next-generation sequencing, as well as developing and executing bioinformatics analyses, and building and maintaining the associated hardware and software infrastructure.

  Lebanon, New Hampshire I worked on metabolic engineering strategies to address challenges in cellulosic bioethanol production, such as enabling yeast to efficiently convert acetate, a toxic byproduct of cellulosic hydrolysis, to ethanol during anaerobic fermentation.

  I was one of the developers of the Citation Style Language (CSL), an open XML based language to describe citation and bibliography formats. CSL is used by the reference managers Zotero, Mendeley and Papers, and over 10,000 CSL citation styles are freely available. I have designed new CSL features and have written most of the project's technical documentation for the first releases. My contributions accelerated CSL development and allowed for the release of CSL 1.0 in early 2010, and 1.0.1 in 2012.   In the Industrial Microbiology research group, headed by prof.dr. Jack Pronk, I engineered the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae for the industrial production of C4-dicarboxylic acids. In this four-year project, sponsored by Tate & Lyle Ingredients Americas Inc., I collaborated with both industrial (Tate & Lyle and Microbia) and academic partners. The project was concluded with my PhD defense on March 21, 2011.
