In December 2009, Ebonie and I worked together on a marketing campaign to keep a local soul food eatery afloat. As the master-mind of this campaign, Ebonie led me (her teammate) and a group of volunteers in hosting a "soul saving" $5 fundraiser and a silent auction, which not only raised funds for the restaurant but also increased its media exposure. The response from the community was evident and even captured by the local newspapers and bloggers. Through her Friends of Ebonie platform, Ebonie is continuing her work in the world of philanthropy and marketing. With Friends of Ebonie, she keeps me (and other readers) abreast with several volunteer opportunities in New York City.
