I enlisted in the Marine Corps on Dec. 22, 2007 and left for boot camp on May 19, 2008. My training was completed in December of that year and I was immediately activated with my unit (MPCO, 4th Mardiv) for a deployment to Iraq where I participated in convoy security missions as a machine gunner. I was in Iraq from April-October of 2009 and upon the completion of that duty returned to reserve status in January of 2010. Later that year I volunteered for a training mission to Afghanistan, where I was deployed in 2011. I participated in NATO training at various sites throughout Afghanistan, including Kandahar (FOB Lindsay) and at Camp Leatherneck. My primary duty during this deployment was training the Afghan National Army how to drive Humvees and manual transmission Ford Rangers. This deployment ran from July of 2011 to February of 2012. Upon the completion of this duty I returned to reserve status and was promoted to Corporal. My time in the Marines also included two weeks in South Africa in a joint training exercise. Show less
