Hoa completed an excellent project on fluorescence spectroscopy of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in the Institute of Biomedical Engineering at Imperial College London. This interdisciplinary study required a thorough understanding of the optical instrumentation, the diseases of the liver and computing skills. The project has also required Hoa to collaborate with a number of academic staff in different departments including Division of Investigative Science, Clinical Medicine and Department of Biosurgery and Surgical Technology at St Mary’s Hospital, and Hoa has handled this very professionally. After returning to work in a research laboratory in Vietnam, Hoa was invited to return to my laboratory to start a new academic collaboration in multispectral imaging of tissue. This work involved researching the potential surgical application areas, as well as documenting the current systems and techniques that are used in this field. Hoa has demonstrated an outstanding ability for independent research and I very much hope that Hoa will be able to continue her career at PhD level and beyond. I look forward to seeing her continued progress.

I always was impressed by Hoa´s outstanding interest in the field. I noticed her excellent laboratory performance, her analytical thinking and her energy and creativity planning experiments. She is able to reach her goal in the framework of any circumstances. Her presentation and English language skills are excellent. Hoa is an asset for a group.

I worked in bio-content group in the course named "Autophagy: Research Behind the 2016 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine". This is a demonstration of Tokyo Tech’s commitment to provide education materials based upon outstanding research achievements, a new Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on "Autophagy”, with Prof. Yoshinori Ohsumi, Assoc. Prof. Hitoshi Nakatogawa, and Asst. Prof. Alexander May as the instructors. The course not only discusses Autophagy but provides information on the importance of basic research and how it is undertaken.
