Matt was the first SNCO that gave me my first big break in my career. I had just crossed over to the Air National Guard from the Active Duty Air Force, and Matt not only gave me a slot in his flight, but he also employed me for multiple years full time during a full blown recession. When I first started working with Matt, he was the first "Working Superintendent" that I encountered in my career. Where most Senior Master Sergeants primarily work with administrative matters, Matt was not only dealing with all of that, but also processing payrolls documents and auditing for us. Even though we were lacking in manpower, we couldn't tell with all of the work Matt put in every single day. There is no better way to instill confidence in your troops than rolling your sleeves up and getting in the weeds with your troops, and Matt embodied this each day. There was never a task that Matt delegated to us, that he wouldnt be doing himself and so you never questioned his orders. He was always on his "A game" and gave me a role model to look up to. Throughout my career I've always tried to meet that same standard that Matt set many years ago for me. He always inspired and motivated and is a true example of servant leadership. I can safely say that I am a much better officer today having been able to work under Matt.

I met Matt in the Idaho Air National Guard. He was my direct supervisor and mentor for 9 years. I benefited from his leadership skills, work ethic, and training. He encouraged and supported any self-development opportunities. His wealth of knowledge in managing departments and in training and education provides a snapshot of his talents and achievements. I'm absolutely confident that he would be a great fit in any organization!
