At BBVA Compass, I’m member of the US PaaS DevOps team, where we are building microservices inside Docker containers, deployed in a Kubernetes cluster hosted in AWS through a CI/CD pipeline. My everyday tasks go from helping the developers, maintaining the Kubernetes cluster, provisioning of MongoDB databases, monitoring everything, architecting this Highly Available and scalable infrastructure in AWS and defining the infrastructure as code. Apart from that project, I’m also a member of the Global DevOps Team, where we architect, develop and manage the CI/CD tools that the projects in every country use. There’s a broad range of products and technologies we use, like Jenkins, Bamboo, Bitbucket, Gitlab, Jira, Artifactory, Sonar, etc. One of my last accomplishments was to help jumpstart the adoption of the new software architecture. When I started working on the project in November, there was only a small POC, and today we have a fully automated development environment that builds and test every piece of code, and then deploys it all the way to production using CI/CD tools. At BBVA I’m member of the DevOps team, where we manage all the technical procedure to make the Continuous Delivery and the good Agile procedures easier in all the Digital Banking structure. We use Linux as the main Operating System, with a hybrid cloud infrastructure using Amazon (AWS) as public cloud and OpenStack as a private Cloud. We work with agile methodologies like Scrum and git-flow schemes. We collaborate with the develop teams, manage the infrastructure and make the processes and tools better, going deeper in the automatic management of the life cycle of the application, including its building, testing and deployment. My daily tasks are evangelizing the DevOps philosophy to all the digital banking system, supporting the continuous integration processes of the bank, virtual network configuration, segmentations and inverse proxies, scripting in Bash and Python. The tools I normally use are RedHat, Debian and Ubuntu as Linux Operating Systems; Mac OS X for the iOS Continuous Integration systems; Tomcat, JBOSS, Apache and NGINX as web and application servers; Amazon Web Services and OpenStack for Cloud Computing; Ansible and Puppet for configuration management and task automatization; Bamboo and Jenkins for continuous integration and deployment with the rest of the Atlassian suite (Stash, Crowd and JIRA); systems monitorization with Sensu and Nagios; version control with GIT; Nexus, Maven, Ant, Grunt and Gradle as building tools; virtualization with vmWare, VirtualBox, Parallels and Vagrant; containers with Docker; and Cucumber, Selenium and Sonar for Testing/Quality.
