It is with sincere pleasure that I recommend Ms. Colleen Kiernan for an elementary teaching position. Ms. Kiernan worked as the Instructional Aide in my classroom during the 2013-2014 school year. In working with Ms. Kiernan, I am confident that she has everything it takes to help students succeed academically, socially and morally. In our classroom, Ms. Kiernan was responsible for adapting curricula as needed to meet the individual needs of students. Specifically, she circulated the classroom during teaching, exhibiting her unique way of interpreting and scaffolding concepts to make them accessible to all learners. Ms. Kiernan was instrumental in creating and executing a replacement reading program for struggling readers in our classroom. Ms. Kiernan worked to design instruction to meet the specific needs of the students to maximize learning potential. Ms. Kiernan also worked with the students one-on-one to support and maintain success. Ms. Kiernan has many, many qualities that make her a well-rounded teacher. She is organized, responsible and always professional. She is proactive and always a step ahead. She is a quick learner who asks inquisitive questions to ensure success. She is nurturing and creates a positive classroom environment for all students. Ms. Kiernan is innovative and inspired, understanding where education is and where it can go. Most importantly, Ms. Kiernan truly knows her students. She plans with each student’s strengths in mind and adapts to meet their weaknesses with success. She is able to anticipate questions during lessons and meets them head-on. She is constantly attuned to the dynamic in the classroom and aware of each student’s personality. These are skills it takes many teachers years to refine and Ms. Kiernan presented them immediately and with ease. I highly recommend Ms. Kiernan for an elementary teaching position.

I taught Core Knowledge Scope & Sequence and Reading Mastery to 20+ students including four students with IEP’s and one ESL student. I actively designed and developed Student Learning Objectives to meet the academic, intellectual and social needs of a diverse groups of students. I was busy creating and implementing a supplemental literacy instruction program for students who struggle academically, yet did not meet the requirements of basic skills classes. I was a member of the Action Team Planning Committee, which ensured the success of collaboration among the school, community and home. Show less

Busy creating a 21st Century classroom designed to engage students of all learning styles by implementing whole group instruction, small group intervention, and one-on-one basic skills reinforcement. Communicating, collaborating, and creating through STEM, inquiry-based learning, and cross-curriculum lessons. Conduct ongoing performance and summative assessments to allow for smooth transitions of groups in the classroom. The assessments include monthly running records, conferences and weekly word assessments. Show less
