I worked with Devalina for two years as a staff writer for Dateline Downtown and as an officer of Psi Chi International Honor Society in Psychology. Her passion and work ethnic enabled her to excel in both positions. As a staff writer for Dateline Downtown, she displayed creativity and critical thinking skills in her writing and investigation. As the Public Relations Officer for Psi Chi, she aided the organization in attending off-campus volunteer events and organizing on-campus events. Devalina is personable, hard working, and very intelligent. I have no doubt that she would be an asset to any team she works with.

The first time I met Devalina I knew she was an extraordinary individual. As a transfer student (and a generation older than most of our classmates) I can easily recall the sincere warmth and welcoming acceptance Devalina made me feel. Later, I had the pleasure of working with Devalina as team leaders of UHD’s Psi Chi and Psychology Club. Despite her heavy course load, she was proactive in not only making decisions, but putting in the time on the details and grunt work, even during odd hours. Devalina displayed such professionalism when communicating with contacts on and off campus and organizing an array of events in a timely manner. I also had the privilege of working with Devalina while mentoring at-risk youth with Houston Public Library. The compassion and respect she displayed was admirable. Her style was open and inviting as she expressed appreciation for the students themselves with genuine patience and kindness. At the Student Research Conference, Devalina was commended by peers and faculty alike for the encouragement she offered others to work together towards a common goal of furthering the community of psychology both on the campus and within the field of psychology. Devalina would be a wonderful addition to any team, as she is well acquainted with teamwork. She is very active and diligent with enthusiasm that is contagious. She has the rare ability to convey her education and experience with encouraging charm. When you connect with Devalina, you will discover an amazing person with unique skills!

Project LEAD focuses on teaching at-risk girls the life skills necessary for professional success and providing financial education vital for their personal success. - Reviewed and make recommendations to enhance course content that drew upon research on irresponsible financial behaviors of minorities, adolescents and women. - Evaluated tools used to assess two of the major programs as the foundation for developing a new program focused on peer-to-peer mentoring.
