  Responsible for consolidating and driving Delivery Management across a portfolio of diverse technology projects, scaling the Programme and Project organisation in a period of rapid growth.   Joined a small rapidly growing consultancy team at McLaren, established to apply F1 telemetry and decision science technology, to solve problems for industry clients. Responsible for delivery of a number of digital transformation "proof of concept" projects in a Life Sciences alliance with GSK including a patient bio-telemetry trial with ALS patients. The project developed a bespoke, secure solution to monitor the activity of patients for clinical evaluation with the intention of reducing the number of difficult clinic visits. The solution and methodology was successfully evaluated through clinical trials and results published. Other successful spearhead projects included a real time decision support tool for Conocophillips platform drilling operations and a wireless telemetry and data analysis system for predictive maintenance of mining haulage trucks with Rio Tinto.

  On assignment in Beijing as Interim Head of "Here", Nokia's cloud based mapping and navigation service, to overhaul and upgrade the joint venture operations and technology solution. With an annual budget of 8M€ and local team of 35, services were adapted using technology from global teams deployed into a unique Chinese internet ecosystem.• Through a Portfolio of projects rationalised local activities to reduce overall operational cost by 50% with an increase in product quality and growing local ownership of technical integration.• Drove modular changes to the global product to enable the move from annual releasing to quarterly China product updates.• Integrated the daily working practices of teams in Beijing and Berlin, overcoming mistrust, to enable effective collaboration, leading to a higher deployment success rate and a reduction in rollbacks.

  Selected to build a central PMO and Programme Management operation for the "OVI" internet service organisation of 2000+ staff worldwide. During a company wide restructure, resulting in divesting "OVI" branded services, subsequently resized and redeployed the recently established function of 130 staff. This required facilitating the employee consultation process in several countries and closing UK operations.

Doubled the product development personnel in Bangalore and secured €10M Capex to build a Global Network Operations Centre over the course of 18 months. Drove consolidation of a fragmented engineering tools landscape to improve development progress transparency.

  Tasked to build, develop and manage the global process and infrastructure for application SW distribution for all Nokia Smartphone products. This involved establishing a team of 60 staff, commissioning a configuration management / publishing system and underlying release test and QA operation. The team managed over 140M "Over The Air" application updates for thousands of configurations with only 3 rollbacks despite volume doubling every month over the period.

  Consolidated multiple high performing teams into a global organisation of 200 development personnel plus an annual subcontracting budget of €10M to create multimedia application software. Included camera, video, photo album, music player, editing and other applications. These SW products distinguished the Nokia N-series family as the leading mobile entertainment smartphones.Key achievements:•Development and Deployment of an innovative modular Service Framework for online picture sharing and printing through collaboration with imaging partners such as Kodak and white label printing providers. •Public launch of the Nokia Pics printing service in Europe in partnership with CeWe.•Strategic change initiative to reorganise and align the working practices of 4 international sites and the introduction of agile development and consolidated release management within 2 months.•Delivery of core multimedia SW: Photo, Video, editing, Music, podcasting etc for all Nseries products from the Nokia N80 to the N96. 10 distinct applications with development for over 15 devices and their lifecycle maintenance.

  Business and R&D responsibility for 2 GSM mobile phone products executed through matrix management of 100 local engineers and collaboration with other teams around the globe. Included development of the Nokia 7610, the first global megapixel phone using the Symbian operating system. Launched at CEBIT in 2004, selling over 12 Million units it generated net profit in excess of 1 Billion euros. This was also the pioneering product for introducing RoHS compliance within Nokia.

  Established a manufacturing engineering and production project management department at Nokia Japan. Recruited a team of 35 local manufacturing engineers, procurement specialists and Project Managers over the course of 12 months with an annual budget of $3M. Ensured concurrent design of production systems and mobile phones developed in Japan to enable state of the automated manufacturing methods and equipment.The team was also responsible for securing sourcing for tooling and product materials in preparation for mass production.
