Christen McCurdy and I worked together at a daily newspaper in Oregon. Because the newsroom was relatively small in staff size, Christen was tasked with a variety of assignments that ranged from page design, feature writing and hard news writing. While chaotic at times, Christen handled her assignments with ease and was able to manage several tasks fluently. On a personal note, Christen has a flare for sarcasm. Her view of the world is very unique. If you hang around her long enough, you will learn plenty that you didn't already know. This makes her fun to work with. Overall Christen is a talented individual who can overcome any project she takes on. She is sure to be a resource to those who employ her.

Christen's verve will make you swerve; her style will make you smile and her thoughts will make you plotz. Every word must be heard. In short, a bold and essential member of any body attempting to creatively communicate in a direct and effective fashion.

I worked on every aspect of production of a weekly community newspaper -- from writing and assigning stories, editing in-house copy, taking and editing photos and proofreading wire copy to final edits before each issue went to press. I also uploaded in-house and wire stories to the website and help manage The Skanner's social media presence. I assisted with the overhaul and relaunch of the website for the leading trade magazine for professional makeup artists and assisted with print production tasks as needed, including spot news stories. I proofread old copy for bad markup, updated old links, checked archives for other errors and proofread new issues of Make-Up Artist Magazine as they went to print.
