Math Teacher - Year Long Volunteer in American Samoa
-
Jul 2018 - Jun 2019
Key Accomplishments: *Managed a team of four students as they built an underwater vehicle and gave a marketing presentation for an island-wide competition *Taught five classes totalling 94 students Algebra 2 and Geometry *Wrote lesson plans for each class period, focusing on making complex topics approachable with limited resources At Nu'uuli Voc-Tech, I volunteered as a full time lead teacher in a high school environment. I taught 5 classes in total, 3 in Geometry, and 2 in Algebra 2. As the only teacher in the classroom, I was responsible for lecturing, classroom management, assessments and grading, and communicating with the administration. I taught a total of 94 students over my five classes. Outside of the classroom, I wrote my own lesson plans to meet the American Samoa DOE standards, emphasizing critical thinking and creativity in math. I also lead the school's underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV) team, teaching them about the engineering design process and the organization of engineering businesses as they prepared for the competition and marking presentation. I was placed at this position through the volunteer program World Teach, which sends teachers to under resourced areas around the world. Show less

Key Accomplishments: *Led remediation of design history files for yankauers and respiratory suction catheters to comply with international regulations *Planned and executed design input verification testing At Cardinal Health I lead the remediation of several design history files for existing products such as the Yankauer Selec-Trol and Argyle Suction Catheters, with sales well over $1MM in the last 3 years. As part of remediation I reverse engineered the design requirements for the products so their design documentation could be updated to meet current ISO and FDA requirements. I designed and performed formal verification testing to ensure the product met the updated requirements. Some examples of requirements tested were products' integrity under vacuum pressure and flow rate of suctioned air under different product conditions. Show less

Jun 2016 - Mar 2017
Key Accomplishments *Worked on a team at Human Design Medical to develop medical ventilator platforms for home and clinical use worldwide *Solved problems in our ventilator by quickly designing parts for real world manufacturing including an electromagnetic shield and retaining band *Designed and performed experiments to prove the efficacy of outlet designs, check if the ISO sound level requirements were met and test if the IP X2 rating of the product was being met *Coordinated with vendors as main contact to develop new parts and processes for the ventilator and company At Human Design Medical I worked on a variety of projects for the Vivo 45 and Vivo 65 ventilators being developed by our parent company Breas. I designed an electromagnetic shield made of for internal sensors inspired by origami to fit within the existing design working as the main contact with an external vendor. I invented and built an inexpensive test setup to test for IP X2 water ingress protection for around $200. I also designed a plastic retaining band to hold internal capacitors in a tight space and the housing for an accessory. Show less
