Disrupting stereotypes and building emotional muscle. What does it mean to be a bloke today? And what do we want it to look like tomorrow? The tide is changing for men young and old and the outdated stereotype is leaving some of our mates, dads, sons, uncles, teammates, workmates and brothers stranded without the tools for a healthy life. In today’s world, lots of men are suffering as a result of not being able to open up emotionally. Holding everything together, not showing vulnerability, being the mate, the partner, the dad, the brother without a space to let go and be supported is taking its toll. Suicide is the biggest killer in Australian men between 15-44. Things need to change… We aim to disrupt and evolve the stereotype of masculinity - where did the rules originate, who made them? Redefining what it means to be a man and providing a relevant emotional skill set that can be applied in the real world for the men of today and tomorrow. Enabling men to strengthen their emotional muscle allows them to develop stronger mutually supportive relationships, express themselves with clarity and confidence when under pressure and most importantly gives them the ability to ask for support when they need it without feeling weak or like a failure. We work in education, sporting clubs professional and amateur, workplaces and partner with aligned brands on unique projects with a social impact. Through a team of highly skilled facilitators, we deliver workshops, long form programs and facilitated keynotes. Show less

To be thrust into such a highly respected role on Camp was humbling but also came with it’s fair share of new challenges and responsibilities. I was given as space to practice, fail, and experience. I don’t think i was as successful over the summer as I would have liked to be, however I left with more learnings than I have most jobs. Key responsibilities - Creation, delivery, and reviewing of work readiness workshops - Assesments of working ability with teens through a structured rubric - Management of the kitchen, washing and dining areas, hosting over 500 people - Mentoring of each and every teen, about 60 over the summer - Confilict and Resolution management - Camp Skills Development for teens - Organising personalised work schedules and development tracks Key achievements - Best team award (Teen Directors) for consistency and performance over the session - Infinity and beyond award for excellence, creativity and going beyond to create an amazing experience. • May 2014 - Aug 2014

After receiving a scholarship through a partnership with Reach and Camp America I was given the opportunity to work in America as a camp counsellor. I worked on Camp Mendocino which specialised in supporting youth from low socio-economic areas in the Bay Area in California (Oakland, San Fransisco). Within my first 2 weeks there I was promoted and given the role of Assistant Tribe Chief meaning I was assistant head of the eldest boys unit. That summer was one of the most challenging yet rewarding experiences of my life. We worked with a very different and sometimes difficult demographic of young people in tough situations. Low operation budgets and high staff attrition due to a variety of reasons demanded ingenuity, creativity, resilience, determination and optimism. The pressure was immense and managing a team when I was the youngest person in it was a sure causation for my huge growth over the summer. The take aways were huge and I know I’ll be returning someday. Key responsibilities - Morning wake up and inspection of cabins - Contacting and speaking to parents after incidents - Administrative functions in keeping kids files up to date and secured. - Management of kids medication - Filing and reporting CPS (Child Protection Services) reports. - Harm and Risk minimisation in activities - Counselling and support for the kids - Management and allocations for counsellors in my team - Team supervision and support - Daily/Weekly unit reports. • Feb 2013 - Oct 2013

My first retail job working in an industry I knew nothing demanded so much from me straight away. It was an amazing opportunity to start building on my sales and people skills. I had to study hard on the products I was selling due to lack of prior knowledge and had to lean heavily on people skills to meet sales quotas. You should never underestimate the skills that can be gained from a sales job where you have no prior experience in the product you're selling. I was lucky to start in a job that straight away started to foster skills I want to keep developing. Show less
