Through volunteer work in this evolutionary ecology lab, I assisted with lab procedures such as DNA extraction and purification, media preparation, and learned qPCR. I performed DNA extractions from salamanders and bullfrogs to obtain individual viral loads of Ranavirus in certain areas around Washington state and in collaboration with other research projects from around the world. I tended to live care of Xenopus species. I used equipment such as a nano drop, pH meters, pipettes, centrifuge, autoclave, and microscopy. I performed daily lab upkeep and maintained proper display of laboratory safety procedures.
