Ofer has strong technical skills both in programming and ML research. Moreover, Ofer is a fast learner and easily adopts new technologies. Under my management, Ofer had demonstrated out of the box thinking, as well as passion to our business domain. His ideas had exceeded the scope of his role, and touched many aspects of the product as a whole. I definitely enjoyed working with Ofer.

Ofer is the type of software engineer that everyone would like to have in his team. He has a very deep understanding of large and complex computer embedded systems, and exceptional debugging skills. In my team, he participated in the invention of a workstation based emulation environment, which serves as a substitute for the laboratory by emulating the physical environment of an F15 aircraft. To perform this, Ofer elegantly and in a very short time ported hundreds of thousands of code lines to the UNIX environment. Moreover, Ofer showed a high commitment to the successes of this initiative, from training the users to writing scripts to support the configuration management of the code. Later, the system developed was recognized as a breakthrough in the unit’s infrastructure for development of avionic software (electronic real-time system on an aircraft), and is now being further developed by an entire section. Finally, Ofer is always happy to share his knowledge and experience, creating a positive work environment.

@Hippo Insurance: I designed a machine learning model (XGboost, sklearn) using 5.5 million data points of leads. Each data point has rich data, including browser data, and external data sources (e.g. census). The model replaces an AutoML model in production to help the customer improve the customer pipeline. Further, I supported the engineering team to push the model to production (proper engineering and documentation, and tests). Major challenges were to acquire domain expertise knowledge in insure-tech and convince a traditional industry to use state of the art machine learning schema.@SentinelOne (an Israeli Unicorn with an antivirus product for big corporations, that has solved the problem of ransomware, with tens of thousands of customers, including fortune 500, millions of end users): Built anomaly detection algorithms at scale (EMR-SPARK, Jupyter, PySpark, Scala, Presto). Steps: (1) read events data files (Parque, ORC). (2) perform feature engineering, feature enrichments (3) apply statistical tests as well as counter, entropy and seasonality algorithms (fft, stl ). Surprising, relatively simple analysis has detected super interesting findings at multiple customers (active viruses). Those proved the value of the system, and motivated the team to push it to production. The system is now in beta.

Identified novel oxidative stress bio-markers by mining the modENCODE data corpus, now available on the Amazon Web Services cloud (AWS EC2). How can we leverage bio-markers discovery to find new drungs for Parkinson's and other age related diseases? An interesting example is the Hsf1 pathway, for which multiple reporter systems are available. A reporter system is typically a hybrid of the identified bio-marker with either Green Fluorescence Protein from jellyfish (GFP, Nobel prize '08) or luciferase from firefly. Utilizing a liquid handling robot, the reporter can be exploited to screen through libraries of small molecules activators. Such activators are potentially new drugs !Further reading: http://bitly.com/TurtoW.
