I worked in Rome, Italy, for a tech startup called TV Files during the dot-com boom. TV Files was a precursor to what we would now refer to as a mixture of cloud computing and a B2B streaming service. It was an exhilarating experience with stratospheric sales goals each quarter. Not only did I perfect my Italian, but I learned to cold call people using my second language (trust me, one of the fastest ways to learn a language is to sell in the language you want to learn).
