During my externship with Lowndes & Barrett my time was spent learning the ins and outs of adoption law per the South Carolina code. I spent the majority of my time one on one with Emily Barrett learning how to efficiently manage an adoption, including learning the specific code, recognizing the requirements of ICWA and also learning how to best advocate for every client. Since each scenario in an adoption is different and may require different aspects throughout the process, I was able to observe and assist in a variety of adoptions. My externship provided me the opportunity to utilize what Mrs. Barrett taught me and see it applied to real life examples.
