I started with ARCO Marine as an office temp in 1991. Because I impressed them with my work attitude and organizational skills they purchased my contract from Apple One Employment Services. I took the position as Administrative Assistant in the Facilities Management department. Soon after I was promoted to Facilities Co-odinater. I survived a layoff in 1994 and was transferred to the Accounts Payable department for ARCO Transportation Co. as a clerk. While in this position I was asked to help in the beta testing of Accounts Payable and Procurement modules of the company's new financial system LAWSON. After surviving another layoff in 1996, I was given the position as Procurement Clerk for ARCO Pipeline Co. While with Procurement I took it upon myself to finish a project started by one of my supervisors that went on a leave of absence. It was to help develop a system of using credit cards for small purchases not needing a purchase order. Since it involved both the accounts payable and procurement modules of the LAWSON system, I found it very easy to finish the project. After the project was complete, it was found that the canned reports in LAWSON were not flexible enough to draw needed information. So, I created a Microsoft Access database that could be used with the file from the bank to extract the needed information for managers of different departments. I was given an Employee Of The Month award for my work. ARCO believed in developing the skills of their employees. As a result, I was able to take classes in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access, as well as workshops in communication and cultural diversity in the corporate workplace.

I started as a line cook for Bob's and soon after started their management training program. There were several levels of management to move through. By 1979 I was promoted to General Manager. While moving up through the ranks, Bob's taught me many great skills needed to be a successful restaurant manager.
