A highly experienced senior Federal Government official who worked for the ATO in Australia and Washington DC in areas ranging from tax policy, technical interpretation and large case reviews, audit and objections. In addition, I have significant experience working with international tax administrators and the OECD while on secondment to Washington DC in 2009 as the ATO’s JITSIC delegate. Career summary as follows: - acting Assistant Commissioner in the ATO’s Public Groups (2008) and Aggressive Tax Planning (2010) divisions; - in 2009, Australian delegate on the Joint International Tax Shelter Information Centre (JITSIC), based in Washington DC during which time I was the ATO’s Competent Authority and attended Forum of Tax Administration meetings. - Senior Director from 2007 to 2009 with responsibility for the ATO’s International Tax Strategy (including transfer pricing) and compliance for the Foreign & Investment Banking sectors. During this time I was responsible for a significant increase in ATO compliance activity and large increase in audit collections. I also played a key role in the development of the ATO’s then position on related party loans and guarantee fees and contributed to the Australian position on OECD Working Party 6. - Senior Director working closely with the ATO’s Tax Counsel to establish the ATO’s view on new tax laws relating to the finance and investment sector - Worked closely with Treasury on the development of tax policy relating to the Banking and Finance sectors while based in the ATO’s National office in Canberra.
