Silvia was an excellent student in my class. Her legal writing and research were consistently strong. I wholeheartedly recommend her for any position and/or job, and feel confident that her hard work and dedication will drive her success in the future. I am happy to provide a more detailed recommendation or to discuss her qualifications. Please contact me at drew@wjnpllc.com. The adventure continues some more. Currently, I am handling litigation matters with a focus on medical malpractice. The remainder of the focus varies and includes business disputes, no-fault, appeals, product liability, & estates. The adventure continues some more. For a little bit, I was at one of the larger Michigan law firms continuing to do litigation work. I went outside of my previous comfort zone and tried something new. It quickly became evident that we were not a good fit. While at this law firm, I learned a lot about myself and the kind of work I like. You might be wondering what I did during the subsequent month and a half before the next opportunity materialized. Easy. I: -Caught up on my Seth Godin books, -Devoured Lawyerist podcast episodes and content, -Talked with local and national solo practitioners about business development, and -Worked on drafting a business plan to open up my own law firm. Why not remove the evidence of this experience altogether from my LinkedIn profile? Like all other life experiences, it has helped make me the person I am today. I would rather keep it. Show less

My adventure continued at Koussan Hamood PLC.* My responsibilities here consisted of: -Drafting pleadings, -Drafting and responding to varied motions and briefs, -Handling case evaluations, settlement conferences, facilitative mediations, and arbitrations, -Taking depositions, -Arguing motions and handling pre-litigation conferences, -Conducting trial, -Continuing to handle litigation matters via video during Covid, and -Researching statutory and case law as needed. Although I closed this chapter of my career, I am appreciative of my experience and time at the firm. *Unfortunately, the firm as it existed during my employment is no longer around as it dismantled in 2022. After graduating law school, I began my journey to immerse myself in the Southeastern Michigan legal community. (Tip: for any law students reading, do this *before* you graduate!) The following is an overview of the origins of my attorney path: Brooks Kushman Associate - I was employed by this IP law firm to work as part of a collaboration between the firm and MSU Law. My objective was to innovatively help startups and entrepreneurs associated with Spartan Innovations with their legal and business needs. The position exposed me to various innovative technologies as well as various areas of the law and business, such as 3D printing, venture capital financing, crowdfunding, intellectual property, and open source software. Revision Legal Contract Attorney - Through my work here, I was exposed to website terms of use and privacy policies, HIPAA business associate agreements, and USPTO trademark office action assignments. Consultant at the Minority Business Development Agency (U.S. Department of Commerce) - While here, I served underrepresented companies. I consulted and strategized with minority-owned businesses on the best ways to obtain access to capital, markets, and opportunities; prepared MBE applications for businesses; coordinated with coworkers in order to create a new website; and attended conferences and events as necessary for the benefit of clients. Dean & Fulkerson Associate - While here, I worked on (1) corporate, real estate, and labor law matters; (2) real estate and business purchase agreements, title documents, loan agreements, letters of intent, and trusts; and (3) research on various subjects, such as the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, employment law, entity formation, corporate issues, real estate law, OSHA, tax issues, Detroit drainage charges, cybersecurity, and trademarks. While I was in law school, I held several exciting internships, externships, and paying jobs. I enjoyed the uniqueness of each one. Here is a brief overview: -Wayne County Prosecutor's Office Intern in the Child Abuse Division -Judicial Intern with the Honorable Matthew Sabaugh in the 37th District Court in Warren -U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Michigan Intern -Student Clinician for the former MSU Law Small Business & Nonprofit Law Clinic (3 semesters) -Research Assistant for Professor Sean Pager regarding IRC, § 501(c)(3) organizations, crowdfunding, and independent filmmakers topics -Research Assistant for Professor Veronica McNally regarding cloud storage, technology, and e-discovery topics -Law Clerk for Paul M. Ross, P.C. (3L year) Show less
