    • Youth Program Intern
      • Jun 2014 - Aug 2014

The Center offers a variety of summer programs for youth in the Archdiocese of Sarajevo. Several of these events are run from a camp setting, which allows youth from various backgrounds to live together in community. Although the Center is a Catholic organization, my summer was spent mentoring and working with youth from diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds. The students and youth come together to learn about their different traditions, faiths and how those differences can help, rather than hinder their communities and country. In addition, I spent time in the office assisting with daily administrative tasks.

    • Student Volunteer
      • Feb 2014 - May 2014

Parichiti is a society for the empowerment of women, which strives to explain legal protections and rights to women domestic workers. I was invited to attend and participate in weekly domestic worker meetings in the rural districts surrounding Kolkata. On days with no field visits, I assisted my coworkers in the office with archiving news articles to create a comprehensive database on domestic abuse cases, gender rights issues, and girl-child education affairs in India and across the globe. During my time with Parichiti I learned countless ways to interact and appreciate people from all backgrounds and levels of society. I learned the inner workings of an office environment different than others I had been a part of in Minnesota.

    • ELC Program Mentor
      • Jun 2013 - Aug 2013

I was a mentor for young students, aged 3-7, Monday through Friday for two months. I worked with a team of five other mentors, and was the leader of my mentor team during the second month. Working with a group of passionate people from nearly twelve different countries allowed me to learn about time management and effective communication skills in different cultural settings. As the team lead I developed my understanding of effective leadership and further advanced my interpersonal skills. In addition, my time living with international peers in Istanbul allowed me to both progress in my own language learning abilities and deepen my appreciation of different cultures.
