I am finishing up my Fourth-year externship at the Balance and Hearing Institute, a partner of Farragut ENT and Allergy. I have been given the opportunity to utilize state-of-the-art equipment and employ evidenced-based practices in order to diagnose and treat a variety of hearing and balance disorders. I spend 3 days a week at our AIB-Certified Balance Center where I perform CDP, VNG, Rotary Chair Testing, Calorics, ABR, ECochG, and VEMP testing. I spend 3 days a week at our AIB-Certified Balance Center where I perform CDP, VNG, Rotary Chair Testing, Calorics, ABR, ECochG, and VEMP testing. I also perform canalith repositioning maneuvers for BPPV. I spend the other 2 days a week at our main office where I perform diagnostic hearing evaluations, tinnitus testing, and CI candidacy evaluations. On these days, I also provide amplification through hearing aids, cochlear implants, and osseointegrated hearing devices, perform hearing aid repairs and handle walk-in appointments, and perform any audiological tests ordered by our ENT physicians. If there is ever any downtime, I help with clerical tasks like checking-in inventory, answering phones and calling patients, insurance verification, cleaning and organizational tasks, etc. I also developed our diagnostic protocol and designed the travel set-up for mobile balance evaluations. In addition to this, I’ve been tasked with overseeing our website and social media accounts, as well as developing a bi-monthly newsletter for our primary care partners which details new developments, ideas, research, or other exciting events relevant to the practice or the field of audiology. I also contributed to the practice’s Audiology Handbook by documenting a detailed list and formatting a visual roadmap of protocols for vestibular testing at our Balance Center.
