Bio
Robert Oppelt
I had the pleasure of working with Jim over the course of seven years. Jim has unusual insight, energy, and creativity. He tirelessly explores new ideas and better ways of doing things, and he brings other individuals and groups into the discussion and finds synergies others may not have seen before. He is a tremendously talented software engineer and an equally gifted architect. Beyond his skills and insights, Jim was foundational to the delivery of multiple solutions where the technology and the science were cutting edge. Without hesitation, I continue to look for ways to add Jim to any team.
Bob Sweet
My association with Jim was at Lilly where from 1994 - 2008 I had leadership roles in IT architecture. At a strategic level, Jim was my key go-to person around software development perspectives. Not only was Jim highly respected across the IT teams as a skilled practitioner in various languages, but his opinion would be well thought out and balanced. Jim worked across the various entrenched groups who had religion about their specific language and/or methodology and helped guide use of the appropriate toolkit for the task at hand. At a practitioner level, Jim has been highly adaptable to IT industry change. He was able to adopt new languages and methodologies both quickly and effectively. He grew through Lilly's investigation and use of Forte', Java, .Net and other high level languages. Whether Jim was formally assigned as leader of a team or brought in to consult, he rapidly became a focal point for managing through design and development decisions. As much as Jim is respected, he shows respect for and builds solid relationships with his colleagues. The relationships were solid enough to support multi-site and long distance development. I strongly recommend Jim for software development roles that need a person who can personally develop applications as well as lead a team to higher levels of performance. His vast experience and ability to work cooperatively will help teams both leverage new capabilities as they evolve and recognize barriers that must be overcome.
