I've known John for about ten years and if you are around him a little bit, it will come as no surprise that his Mother is a retired teacher. John is very organized and timely, and he is a gentlemen. But mostly, he is a gifted teacher and coach. I hope this new job provides an opportunity for him to actually do some coaching because otherwise he will be vastly underutilized. On an individual basis one can see the improvements as he moves through a session with an student. That kid will be doing something better than he or she was prior to the session. I can see him now, hunkering down, engaging the player, kidding, cajoling, teaching, building their confidence and their skill and doing it with them until they can do it like he wants them to. On a team basis, John repeatedly, year-in-and-year-out, is able to craft a group of mostly slow, white kids, into a hard-working, disciplined team that often challenged, surprised and many times won over other supremely athletic teams.
