Paul worked for me for many years at BOM. Both his in depth domain knowledge as well as his ability to find solutions to often complex problems proved invaluable. His willingness to go the extra mile, and dedication to his job, made sure that products were the de-facto standard for our target market. In a nutshell, if you wanted it done, wanted it done properly, you gave it to Paul.

Software Development Executive
-
May 2015 - Mar 2016
The main clients are companies involved with car parking, road user charging, and delivery management. I was part of the team that is responsible for the development of management (back office) websites, public websites, intelligent touch-screen payment terminal software, and high-load server applications. The role also involved writing technical documentation, testing, software deployment, hardware setup, customer support, and some project management. The development tools that I used were C# in Visual Studio 2013, JavaScript (with some jQuery), PHP (Yii and Laravel) in NetBeans, with MySQL databases. We also used TortoiseSVN, Jira, Bamboo, and Zephyr. I left the company so that I could focus more on C# .NET development. Show less

Senior Web Application Developer
-
Jul 2008 - May 2015
The main clients are hotels, property developers, and shipping companies, but the Hotel clients continually require changes and enhancements to keep up with changing trends in the hotel and tourist industries, as well as to try to stay ahead of the competition. Day-to-day duties included producing and maintaining projects, and changing or implementing new functionality as required, while overseeing a junior web developer and a graphic designer. To meet business-critical deadlines, I was used to managing my own time while working autonomously on multiple projects, but also working to management-driven priorities. The websites include an online booking system and a full guest/members portal. I integrated live credit card payment processing through a 3rd-party PCI-compliant payment processing company; PayPal payment processing; functionality to send/retrieve data from external servers using the SOAP protocol; a REST API endpoint (MVC) for providing live Hotel availability data (json) to TripAdvisor. I produced software (VB.NET) for sending emails to guests, and this is executed from SQL Server Agent jobs that also call stored procedures for consolidating data beforehand. There is an administration portal for content management, booking management, customer management, reports (SQL Server Reporting, and Telerik Reports & Charts), and system administration. Content and booking are long-standing, but I made vast and numerous enhancements, and the others I implemented from scratch. I integrated and customised 3rd-party projects (C#) into the network of systems. I was involved in the full project life cycle - requirements analysis, specifications & design, development & testing, deployment, database management, and customer support. The main tools that I used were VB.NET in Visual Studio 2012/13, Team Foundation Server, Telerik web controls, JavaScript & jQuery, SQL Server, and IIS. I left the company after deciding to emigrate from Cyprus to Malta. Show less

The role further evolved to incorporate various and numerous I.T. duties including amendments and upgrades to the company’s administration systems and implementing new company standards and procedures, some of which I instigated. My employment ended because the company shut down. Show less

My main clients were private individuals and small to medium businesses. My work involved meetings with potential clients, producing quotes and timescales, undertaking design, implementation, and functionality meetings with the client, uploading the finished web site to the client’s web server, and instructing the client in site administration. Also included was web site submission to the popular search engines and also to relevant free business directories on the internet. I also arranged domain name registration and web hosting if required. Types of web sites designed ranged from static HTML web sites to database-driven php web sites and Flash sites. I had to give up freelancing due to lack of viable clients. Show less

Software Developer
-
Oct 1993 - Jul 2006
Our main clients were Police and Government. My primary role was developing software to aid in the investigation of crime primarily within the UK. The main duties that I performed included the following:- Meetings with potential customers to discuss their requirements, and any existing software and database structure that they had. Providing specifications for a customer’s requirements for agreement prior to implementation. Implementing customer requirements - the applications that I developed were extremely versatile such that they could be completely tailored to a customer's specific requirements and this was usually the main part of a particular project. Converting legacy data - usually there was a requirement to provide access to any existing data, so a data conversion plan had to be designed and agreed so that, after the software installation, the existing data could be imported in to their new database and accessed easily from the new application. Site visits, nationally and internationally, to install and update software. Due to the nature of our clients, I was vetted on numerous occasions (various levels) and I also signed the Official Secrets Act. I left the company after deciding to emigrate to Cyprus. Show less

I started working for this company as a Saw Operator’s Assistant, but quickly became a Saw Operator myself.
