I wrote articles featuring the students and their research to highlight activities occurring in SBI and showcase what potential graduate students could find themselves working on. Blog Intern
-
Jan 2012 - Dec 2012
Every other week, I had to brainstorm a list of blog articles I would work on until the next deadline, noting what other interns were working on and paying attention to current events. I generated at least 4 blog article ideas each week, as pertaining to college life in some manner. I wrote the articles for a biweekly deadline and promoted them further on social media platforms. The articles were featured on the eCampus blog, as well as their affiliated Knetbooks blog. After my first semester… Show more Every other week, I had to brainstorm a list of blog articles I would work on until the next deadline, noting what other interns were working on and paying attention to current events. I researched companies, organizations and events that benefitted some humanitarian or environmental cause, like Toms and the Water Project. I wrote articles on anything from poverty to sustainable agriculture and promoted the work and the site on social media outlets, producing at least two new blog posts every week. I submitted my posts to the site owner for editing, though after a few weeks, he allowed me to post my work directly without his guidance. I wrote blogs for the Savvy Intern, focusing on how social media is important for finding internships based on my knowledge from prior internships and further research into the field. I also worked on developing relationships with companies through Facebook by maintaining a spreadsheet focused on the level of interactions and frequency of interactions to promote further reach for YouTern. I also updated the docent news letters based on the writing of the education department. For an inaugural event, VOICES, I developed a social media campaign and implemented these ideas on Facebook and Twitter to teach people about the point of the event and what to expect when attending. Each day began with looking for inspiration from other blogs and current trends in social media and personal branding to develop articles focused on a keyword. I actively sought trying to draw in new younger readers by writing about a wide variety of topics like sports, celebrities, and every day life. I promoted the articles on social media outlets, with some of my articles reaching over 100 retweets.
