Responsible for all administration, marketing, community relations, government relations and event management. I reported to a Board of Directors and supported them in their roles and fiduciary responsibilities. Was responsible for the business health and cohesiveness of the downtown core, this required creativity, strong interpersonal skills, and very strong organizational skills as I juggled a variety of responsibilities and issues at one time. I managed the operations of the Horticulture Centre of the Pacific (HCP) and the Pacific Horticulture College (PHC). Engaged a strong enthusiastic team, supported over 200 volunteers, and oversaw the private college, no challenge was unachievable. I started at a time when the organization was at a low point financially and morally. I started at a time when the organization was at a low point financially and morally. By, hiring an amazing team, engaging volunteers and inspiring the college instructional team, I took the HCP to a new level. Prior to my departure at the gardens, HCP was awarded “Top Garden of the Year” by the Canadian Garden Council, bringing National recognition to the gardens, the volunteer numbers increased and the Pacific Horticulture College was at full enrollment. Having keen organizational and multi-tasking skills, I was put to the test when juggling College Director responsibilities such as; provincial accreditation, students needs, instructors and educational programs while incorporating my GM responsibilities of overseeing the public garden operations including; financials, marketing, advertising, volunteer stability, annual fundraising events, staffing support, staff scheduling, Board relations, community outreach and the over all day to day hurdles and successes. I enjoyed every minute of my career at HCP, motiving others and embracing the success resulting from working smart and together was amazing! Students, volunteers, visitors and staff all thrived under my loyal, positive energetic leadership. Being apart of and building the HCP team was a rewarding, educational experience. Due to geography and family commitments I had to return to the mainland full time. Being the CEO I was responsible for overall leadership and direction of the organization and worked in partnership with government, municipalities, employers, apprentices and training providers to ensure that HEBC fulfills the goals and objectives as the industry training organization for horticulture and agriculture apprenticeship programs of British Columbia. HEBC was the first “Industry Training Organization” of the current BC apprenticeship system. I led HEBC in substantial apprenticeship registration growth, increased sponsorship numbers, increased completion rates and developed 5 new BC trades. During this time I was delighted to assist in apprenticeship guidance, participated on several industry panels, presented career options to prospective students, facilitated workshops, discovered and managed grants, and led the strategic direction of the board. What can be more rewarding then developing and launching educational programs to launch people into successful careers. The horticulture trade has come a long way and is now recognized as a RED SEAL trade, the agriculture Dairy Production program is invaluable to the industry. My position at HEBC was a rewarding career of growth both personally and professionally. In four years, I moved swiftly up the corporate ladder to a Corporate Trainer position. I travelled throughout North America delivering information seminars and training new clinical staff for the opening of new laser eye clinics. Working with a professional team of surgeons, and Optometric professionals, I developed clinical training manuals and procedures to be used within the clinics. I was successful as a trainer because I had the ability to understand people and their individual learning… Show more In four years, I moved swiftly up the corporate ladder to a Corporate Trainer position.
