Fort Meade, Maryland, United States I have spent time in both the business and intelligence side of the Department of Defense. For the business side, I researched data science and machine machine learning developments to bring innovative, streamlined projects to my team. I wrote analytics that made large and complex datasets clean and easy for analysts to understand. I also created a statistical methodology that detects and scores credit card fraud. The customers for this project use an interactive dashboard that allows them to see the results of my fraud detection model, and gives detailed information for them to take further action; I created this as an R ShinyApp. Since the customer base for this project did not consist of technical employees, I created many visualizations that enabled me to clearly explain the methodology used. While working with intelligence analysts, I designed analytics that expedited their daily workflow and maintained update-and-feedback meetings through the design process to ensure the final product would provide maximum support to their mission. These predictive analytics processed large amounts of signals intelligence (SIGINT) using Apache Hadoop Map/Reduce and have been utilized across the US intelligence community. I recreated a python analytic by writing it in Java on NSA cloud computing servers and reduced run time from one day to less than an hour; the results also had clearer readability. I anticipated the benefits of writing analytics in Java, so I took the initiative to learn these languages through formal job training shortly after joining the office. Currently hold TS/SCI security clearance. Show less

Chevy Chase, MD As an Actuarial Associate at GEICO Casualty Insurance Co., I created models that directly affected the price of auto insurance for millions of Americans. Using my statistical computing knowledge in R, I built, tested, and deployed general linear models to redesign multi-line deductible factors. The process from collecting and combining data from multiple sources, all the way to producing interpretable visualizations that I visually and orally communicated to senior management were completely under my scope of responsibility. I analyzed data for trends in R, SAS, and Excel, and used the results to predict business needs and shifts in insurance claims; these results were frequently commented to over 200 departmental employees through meetings and email. Amherst, MA My ultimate goal as a Resident Assistant is to create a welcoming environment for all of my residents. If the opportunity arises, I try to engage in thoughtful conversations with all of my residents to make sure they are well. Throughout the semester I create four educational and social events, change my bulletin boards monthly, and make two door decorations. Hartford, Connecticut During my internship at The Hartford, I worked on the personal auto reserving team where I was able to gain a deep understanding of both personal lines and reserving. For my main project, I created a reserving method that develops ultimate loss projections by injury group. To start my reserving method, I used Proc SQL in SAS to pull and join data from multiple data sources and exported my final data into Excel. In Excel, I used pivot tables, calculated fields, and many other excel functions to create the reserving method and project yearly ultimate loss costs. At the end of the summer, I presented my project and recommendations to senior leadership. I performed a mix analysis on bodily injury claims and analyzed how The Hartford's claim mix changed over time. I also performed an experience study of claim mix on policy limits. I explained how our change in claim mix and policy limit mix was going to affect our overall BI Tort Severity. Show less

Tax Project Specialist
-
Dec 2015 - Jan 2016
Middletown, RI I worked on a tax project that was designed to increase the efficiency of property searches in the company's software- ResWare. I streamlined the software by creating tax collector information files and categorizing the files by state and county. Previously, workers would have to search for a tax collector's information so they could call them and see if there were any liens on a property. Now, when a worker chooses a property in ResWare, the tax collector's information for that property… Show more I worked on a tax project that was designed to increase the efficiency of property searches in the company's software- ResWare. I had to report the status of my project to my supervisor daily and ask him any questions that arose. Show less
