I) My wish is to see my home state Tamil Nadu make a sustainable energy transition. To realize my wish I am doing the following: 1. Analyzing the retail electricity tariffs of the electricity utilities in India 2. Working on introducing the Distributed Renewable Energy Generation (DREG), Demand response, Time of the day, season, and year tariffs in the State of Tamil Nadu. 3. Researching Tamil Nadu's electrical energy policy. 4. Setting a decarbonization pathway with Science-Based Targets Tools in terms of Carbon-dioxide emission intensity. 5. Working to create an energy policy document for Tamil Nadu. II) I am also helping multinational companies decarbonize their operations, set targets for their emissions, and give methods to achieve the same. Show less

Bremerhaven is a city with a port. In general, ships use heavy oil as fuel and generate about 2.5 x 10^6 tonnes/annum of sludge oil. Sludge oil is an emulsion composing heavy oil and water. Oily sludge is considered to be hazardous to environment and human health, thus requiring effective remediation (Ferrari, 1996). Moreover high water content in sludge oil lowers its calorific value. So it becomes costly to reuse the sludge oil for combustion. Hence sludge oil is to be properly treated. Ships have to pay money to discharge its sludge oil, which could be saved by properly treating and reusing sludge oil. In this project, I worked with a project manager of TTZ in the Department for Water, Energy and Landscape Management (Environmental Institute) to purify sludge oil for an effective disposal by reducing the environmental problems.
