Research Intern

Thulir - A center for living at sittlingi village. Thulir have been looking at alternatives to the mainstream education system, so that they may be able to cater to the needs of those children who get left out/ left behind. As part of the learning at Thulir, they have been experimenting with alternative technologies and life styles. Research work have been carried out on houses built out of local low energy materials like mud, thatch, stone etc. with very minimal use of steel and concrete. Apart from this many efficient strategies were used and studied. Like, the kitchen wastes are composted in the land. Cow dung is used to produce Bio-gas. Urine separated dry compost toilets were built to save water and to get manure for the soil. Grey water [waste from bath, wash and kitchen] is used in the organic garden. They grow millets, pulses by using drip irrigation system to minimize the use of water. Show less
