Director of Software Engineering

Mar 2021 - Present
- Lead requirements analysis for new projects, manage kanban board for the development team, and report development progress to company stakeholders weekly. Through my experience with Software Development and familiarity with the application, newly incurred technical debt is at an all time low.- Provide technical insight during exploratory meetings with potential clients and partners, as well as became main technical contact for current companies we were partnered with. The insight provided helps clarify paths forward for major projects and improves intercompany communication.- Mentor junior developers and produce clear/concise software documentation. This decreases the time it takes to onboard new hires as well as allows us to provide paid internships to Computer Science students from the nearby College of Charleston that benefit both the interns and SE Healthcare.- Related skills: Project Management, Agile Development, Mentoring, Intercompany Communication, Software Documentation, along with skills listed in previous position Show less

Lead Software Engineer

Jan 2020 - Mar 2021
- Analyzed survey data using ElasticSearch, SQL, and Python in conjunction to determine causation of physician and nurse burnout and its correlation to patient satisfaction. These findings would be presented to hospital administration and company stakeholders.- Used the agency provided by this senior position to start eliminating technical debt incurred during the development of the companies applications. This included improving the overall user experience of the frontend as well as DRYing the codebase to provide more clarity for future developers.- Modularized existing applications to run within multiple docker containers instead of a single EC2 instance on AWS. This improved the software development lifecycle by providing the ability to spin up new instances for testing with ease.- Related skills: React, Ruby on Rails, Node.js, AWS, Docker, Git, Python, PostgreSQL, ElasticSearch Show less

AWS services I directly worked with include: EC2, ECS, RDS, Lambda, S3, CloudFront, Redshift, and IAM.- Maintained platform updates for the application to avoid using outdated versions of packages that were no longer supported long-term.- Related skills: Angular v1, Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, AWS, Git, Automated Testing, Unix Administration, Bash-scripting Show less

May 2016 - Jan 2018
- Assigned to the DevOps team for the JTCW project which was responsible for deploying updates globally to over 10,000 systems across 15 hardware platforms. I was tasked with migrating the project's update distribution from physical to digital, where the main challenge stemmed from some Forward Operating Bases having low or inconsistent bandwidth. - Overcame the issue of poor internet connections by using IBM UrbanCode Deploy in a novel way. Only one laptop had to be updated through WAN and then that laptop would update the others through LAN. Due to this unique use case of UrbanCode Deploy, I was invited to give a talk on the project at IBM's InterConnect conference.- Related skills: DevOps, Network Administration, Batch-scripting, Java, .NET Show less

May 2015 - May 2016
- Developed a web application for recording and maintaining requirements/specifications for projects. The app would in turn generate formal documentation for Department of Defense approval.- Worked on Natural Language Processing tool that used the Python library, NLTK. My main responsibility was benchmarking and improving the tool's performance. By incorporating parallel processing and restructuring when the NLTK modules would be loaded, I was able to reduce the processing time of the tool's performance by ~40%.- Related skills: Python, Angular v1, Natural Language Processing, Requirements Analysis, SharePoint Show less
