Thru-Hiker
-
2022 - 2022
I researched, planned and completed this 2,194.3 mile hike across 14 states in 6 months, achieving this long-term goal by using short-term check points to remain on track for completion. This hike helped me build skills and gain first-hand experience to supplement my academic career and support my science classroom leadership. In addition to the physical hike, this experience enhanced my life and professional skills, including budget planning and management, logistics and research, communication, collaboration, flexibility and self-discipline to plan and execute this outdoor adventure experience. It broadened my horizons as naturalist by chronicling flora and fauna for future classroom use. While on the AT, I observed and responded to variable weather patterns based on altitude and environment and experienced the impact of different pollutants (noise, light, air, waste) in each state. I utilized my foraging and mycology knowledge to supplement trail food and educate fellow hikers on identification of safe consumables. Show less

Student Teacher - Biology
-
2022 - 2022
I developed and implemented project-based instructional lessons as lead teacher and co-taught others in a 29- to 38-student Biology classroom. I aided the leader teacher in assessing student academic and behavioral progress. I utilized model-based reasoning to have students draw conclusions for lab projects and monitored progress while allowing students to manage procedure, equipment and time to complete assignment. I planned, supervised and assisted students with lab activities and projects based on data collection and interpretation, using inductive and deductive studies to support curriculum goals. I ensured student progress toward learning goals by dividing lessons into individual work and peer review to provide more autonomy in learning. I also reviewed student 504 plans and delivered differentiated lessons to ensure academic success. I met with parents regarding student progress and developed individualized recommendations for supporting academic success and extracurricular interests. I utilized NetRef to monitor student online activity and Schoology to assign work, publish announcements, enter attendance and record grades. Show less
