My research focuses on the synthesis of atomically precise noble metal nanoclusters (NCs), which are nanoscale materials that possess a discrete number of atoms arranged in a precise manner. These nanoclusters have unique optical and electronic properties, which make them useful in a wide range of applications. I am particularly interested in determining the crystal structures of these nanoclusters and exploring their photophysical characteristics, such as their photoluminescence and catalytic properties. By understanding the fundamental properties of these materials at the atomic level, I hope to gain insights into their potential use in state-of-the-art technologies. In addition to my work on nanoclusters, I am also developing a new class of nanomaterials called cluster-assembled materials (CAMs). These materials are assembled from nanoclusters using organic linkers and have unprecedented electronic properties due to their unique structural architectures. By carefully controlling the length and conjugation of the organic linkers and the structural architecture of the cluster nodes, we can modify the charge transport properties of the CAMs. This makes them promising candidates for use in a wide range of electronic devices, such as field-effect transistors and opens up new avenues for research in nanoelectronics. My overarching goal is to advance the field of atom-precise nanostructure and its applications across a wide range of disciplines. By synthesizing and characterizing novel nanomaterials with unique properties, I hope to contribute to the development of cutting-edge technologies that can address some of the most pressing challenges facing society today.
