An e-commerce company which primarily specialised in the health and beauty market. Using Amazon as the platform for the storefront, products were sold and shipped out everyday. I have gained invaluable commercial experience and organisational skills which has helped me to further my entrepreneurial hunger to learn and passion to be successful at a top law firm. This has stemmed from initial communications with a plethora of suppliers to select one at the beginning of my journey, those suppliers being from both America and China, continuous communication with my personal supplier presently and also replying to my customers whenever I receive an email from them. I have also attended a nationwide networking conference in London for my business, which has improved my ability and confidence to speak to potential clients and other business owners to market my products. From managing my business over the last year, I have taken a wider interest in keeping up-to-date with the world of business and the news surrounding it both in relation to my sector, to see whether or not I should re-order stock due to the currency volatility or invest in a new product, and also others for a wider appreciation of the current events. Throughout my stints I gained invaluable experience of working as a team in a very busy store and was trained in all areas but worked mainly on the shop floor and/or at the till point. From this, I was able to develop customer service skills by speaking to staff members easily and assisting customers with their every need and offering a pleasant customer service experience. The summers were hectic due to sizeable deliveries constantly arriving and also a deficiency in staff numbers but due to the team-work displayed, everything was always done on time. My working hours averaged over 25 a week meaning that I am accustomed to organising my work time, business time and social time. From this, I can cope with a high demand level of work and stress. Throughout this one week work experience I was able to access and use the firm’s computer system to gain an understanding of a system that a law firm uses and also to update their will classification, meaning that I analysed all of the wills to see which clients were to be sent out a letter of amendment if their will was older than five years. I was also able to sit-in on some client meetings on will drafting and conveyancing matters which was highly beneficial to see how a professional lawyer-client meeting was conducted. Additionally, I enjoyed the experience of an office environment with working hours as a change from my previous part-time jobs, and I know that this is an environment that I can excel in. Whilst this was useful experience, I now would like to experience a successful international firm to pursue my ambition of being a corporate lawyer. Show less

I gained a useful insight into the administrative side of a law firm through helping out with paperwork and systematic filing while also being present in client meetings which introduced me to the formalities of a client consultation in the working world. I also experienced the making of a will which was interesting and assisted me when studied this at university due to the fact that I had first-hand experience of the document being constructed. From participating in this week, I was able to consolidate my aim to be a lawyer as I enjoyed even the smallest task that I was assigned. While I enjoyed it overall, it clarified that I wanted to be a lawyer who is under more pressure to perform, like in a corporate environment with a successful law firm. Show less

Here, I gained further useful IT skills from working with legal documents and researching simple matters for the firm. Again, experience was gained from a formal meeting environment with a client, this time on a different subject matter of conveyancing.
