As Operations Manager at Ampcontrol Africa (Transformers division), Beyers was a key member of my senior management team. He played leading roles in several projects we undertook, including a factory relocation, a substantial capital expenditure program, and the implementation of an ERP system. He never hesitated to lead by example and was highly respected by his colleagues and reports. He implemented various change initiatives, including daily tracking of important metric and accountabilities at short team meetings. This greatly enhanced speed of operations, and the interaction between departments. His value stream mapping and improvement exercise, involving various people throughout the business, resulted in sustainably reduced lead times from order placement to shipping. He further instituted KanBan systems for better stock management, and initiated a 5S programme. He is highly adept at Lean systems; he hosted several in-house workshops on various subjects. Beyers enjoys empowering his reports to make their own decisions in achieving stretch targets. Although an assertive leader, he has high emotional intelligence and will adopt his leadership style as the situation (and people) require. Beyers has a highly customer-focused approach, and his wide experience in fields as diverse as Human Resources and Finance was invaluable. He understands financial reports very well, and how activities in the business impact on various line items in the P&L and balance sheet. He also greatly stabilised and improved relations with unionised employees. He is a strategic thinker and has strong analytical capabilities. He was unfortunately retrenched as part of a large restructuring programme, where the integration of two divisions was imminent. His dedication and willingness to go the extra mile was unwavering until the very last day of wrapping his commitments up, as it always had been. Beyers added tremendous value during a time of much change at Ampcontrol Africa and I will gladly recommend him for a senior role elsewhere.
