Doctor McGougain

I had the pleasure of working with Tyrone Turner as part of an organization known as Urban Ambassadors. The organization dealt with mentoring young men via career development and mentoring. Tyrone and I collaborated on curriculum development and group facilitation. Tyrone is a passionate speaker and worker. He brings 100% to his work. Tyrone also does not hesitate to give back to his community in any and all capacity. I highly recommend him for youth development, mentoring and overall leadership.

Tyrone is a wonderful teammate! He is supportive, motivating, and all around great at what he does. Tyrone's commitment to educating the community of Queensbridge in Long Island City is a sight to be seen. Using his relative, humorous and compassionate 'no nonsense' approach Tyrone has an effective way of reaching young people, and helping them to reach what they once thought was unachievable. It really is a pleasure to work alongside him.

I help urban middle schoolers meet and exceed New York State social studies standards by assisting in the development of critical thinking and analysis, and inquiry based research to determine what is factual and what is false, as well as what is or was probable from that which is unlikely. There is an intentional effort to show the connectivity of social studies to science and math. At the moment the emphasis is a reexamining of early American history and having a discourse about current events and how the past is directly connected to the present and the future. I also serve as the 9th Grade Team Leader, and as a Mentor Teacher for a NYU Teacher Resident at my school. Show less

As a suited instructor, Mr. Turner not only allows students to practice various techniques full-power on him, but also works in tandem with other instructors to teach various research-based best practices for setting boundaries, identifying predators, and the use of verbal tools to diffuse or avoid potentially violent confrontations. He has learned and teaches that martial arts and self-defense are not the same. Whilst martial arts does indeed give one a catalog of various techniques, philosophies, and traditions, the things taught are not always easily applied in street scenarios, and do not always offer verbal and psychological tools to avoid, diffuse, and efficiently handle adversarial, potentially violent confrontations in public venues or private settings. This is why he decided to partner with Prepare Inc. as it offers comprehensive violence prevention programs and evidence-based programs for personal safety, communication skills and self-defense.
