Helene Vincent
I had the pleasure of working with Matt Cloyd in his capacity as a Policy Advisor for my Boston City Council campaign. Matt worked with several other policy experts to craft and write our campaign’s policy agenda. This job required a good deal of research, along with frequent meetings with other policy experts and stakeholders throughout the campaign. Matt proved an invaluable asset to the campaign. While he shone in numerous ways, I’ve highlighted a few of his most remarkable accomplishments and attributes below. Driving new projects with confidence and a proactive attitude: Campaigns are lean and fast-moving. Matt constantly took the initiative to develop and drive new projects. He has the confidence to take the lead, combined with the willingness to get buy-in and feedback along the way. For example, when Matt brought new policy proposals to the table, he took the time to ensure that others on the team embraced his ideas. If there was any hesitation or disagreement, he facilitated a group conversation to bring us to consensus. For Matt, the quality of the idea, and the cohesiveness of the group is far more important than winning any debate or getting credit for an idea. Provides strategic insights through analysis: Matt analyzed data thoroughly, coming back to me with nuanced analysis and strategic insights. Charismatic: For someone who works so well independently, Matt is remarkably charismatic. His authenticity, passion, and insight shine brightly for all to see. Creative: Matt never needed me to give him a strategic direction. He suggested creative solutions to some of our most difficult challenges. Ambitious in pursuit of goals and objectives: This is Matt’s most outstanding trait. On top of his full-time job, Matt spent hours each week volunteering for the campaign. You can tell as soon as you meet Matt that he is someone who takes nothing for granted, sets high standards, and pursues them uncompromisingly. Even when the workload becomes heavy at times, Matt can focus on the end objective and provide the positive attitude needed to get there. Matt’s sharp intellect, excellence, positive attitude, and fierce ambition will take him far. I am very grateful to have had him on my team and know that any institution would be lucky to have him as well.
