Architect - DCRP Project

The goal of the project was to consolidate several thin client environments into one standardized architecture using XenApp 5 and Microsoft AppV.• Convinced the customer to use server virtualization, resulting in a >3:1 server footprint reduction.• Introduced Citrix Provisioning Services to reduce downtime caused by changes to the environment.• Implemented OS build lifecycle management.• Wrote the high level and detailed design for Citrix PVS.• Assisted the packaging team with complex packaging problems.• Designed a solution to avoid changes in the user experience from using AppV. • Replaced a manual reboot cycle of 290 servers during the weekend with a script. (Shift workers were not supposed to be hindered by the reboots).• Trained the operations team.• Created the Citrix server images.• Projected the required hardware capacity to support the consolidation.• Conducted disaster recovery test.

Thin Client Architect - Textiles Project

After the acquisition of another company, Huntsman had to integrate 4000 users with their existing IT environment.• Designed the Citrix environment with a lot of improvements like Softgrid, cost reduction in the build process etc. • Analyzed the best solution for connecting the two Active Directories.• Developed a data migration process without having administrative access to the source files (limitation of the agreement).

Thin Client Architect - Singapore DC Project

To improve the performance in the APAC region Huntsman decided to build a new datacenter in Singapore. • Worked together with other members of the IT department to design the new architecture.• Created migration scripts for the user migration.• Designed the terminal server image.

During this period I was part of the global design team, and involved in all sorts of changes, mainly in the Thin Client environment.• Performed feasibility studies.• Designed an alternative for the Citrix load balancing operating on a Linux cluster using Microsoft RDP.

Because of an increased time pressure on the project and a large number of applications that still required to be packaged I was brought in to identify duplicate applications and report on the effort that was required when either continuing with the project or stop the project and perform a phase out. • Identified different data sources with available information. • Identified applications that presented a high cost without being business critical. • Structured the information into a consolidated list and reports.

Thin Client Architect - ADMAT Project

After the successful rollout of the PU division Huntsman decided to convert a newly acquired company with +/- 4000 users also to thin client. • Assisted the customer in migrating the remaining sites. • Performed an onsite study for the production sites worldwide to identify the potential problem areas with the migration, for which I documented the suggested way forward. Thin Client Architect - Blue Ocean Project

This was one of the pioneer Thin Client projects. For cost reduction reasons Huntsman migrated all 5000 users in >100 sites to thin clients, connecting to only three datacenters.• Convinced the customer for using Citrix.• Designed the architecture.• Setup the POC.• Wrote the operational procedures for the supporting IT company.

Thin Client Architect - Titan Project

Huntsman had to upgrade their SAP GUI on all clients. This had serious cost implications because the existing PC’s had insufficient hardware. To support this I designed a system so 1000+ users could access their SAP GUI anonymously via thin client over the WAN whilst keeping management costs to a minimum. This was achieved by using Terminal Servers in load balancing, group policies, software restriction policies and IPSec policies.

Assisted Katoennatie with the migration from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2000. This included setting up active directory, installing their mailbox cluster and writing the disaster recovery plan.
