Fan Milk is concern with manufacturing and retailing of ice cream and frozen dairy and non dairy products. Posted to the Engineering Department. Learnt about the various production [PET (FanDango), Sachet (yoghurt), TCA (Tetra Classic Aseptic), Ice cream], the machines used for each sections, the processing unit (fermentation, incubation), water treatment and ammonia refrigeration plant and the engineering (including preventive and general maintenance) aspect. National Horticultural Research Institute is an organization, concern with horticultural produce (genetic improvement and product development), research, training etc. *Programs at NIHORT :- Product Development Fruits Research Program Vegetable Research Program Citrus Research Program Farming System ( soil lab, agricultural extension etc.) Floriculture Research Program Genetic Improvement Program Research and Development Program etc. Did 2weeks of orientation inorder to get familiar with the programs. Posted to Product Development Program. The program was divided into 2 sections:- Processing unit Laboratory unit ( Microbiology and Chemistry). LABORATORY UNIT ~ Type of analysis - *Quantitative and qualitative Learnt:- *Phytochemical Analysis of samples (water, ash, plant extract, ginger, lemon etc.) Analysis of flavonoid, saponin, ascorbic acid, sulphate, phenols, tannin etc. *Microbial analysis on fresh horticultural produce *Processing of horticultural produce (fruits, vegetables, flowers) to produce or develop new products (fruits juice and beverages, ginger and lemon powder etc.) PROCESSING Processing start from the raw material preparation ( harvesting the horticultural produce and preparing it for sorting, cleaning etc.). size reduction through cutting, milling to paste, or grinding etc. Juice extractor is used to extract the juice while remain is the junks (filter cake). Heating is by pasteurization / Blanching (mild heat treatment), the bottle is capped using a bottle capper / corking machine, packaging and labelling, all makes the product standard.
