I had the pleasure of working with Justin on a major project at Mission Data. The user interaction requirements were complex and involved many components. To make it work, we needed someone with deep understanding and proficiency in React. Justin brought that to the project and more. I can say without exaggeration that this effort owed its success to Justin's knowledge, skill, and excellent teamwork. Justin's impact on the project went beyond technical chops in building the UI, he also made important contributions to the build processes, testing, and the overall architecture of the UI. One of Justin's defining traits is always seeking to learn and improve. He has excellent depth in UI technologies and keeps up with trends and improvements in the field. He is also broad in his skills, covering design as well as well as development. As a teammate, he is collaborative, helpful, honors his commitments, and is always willing to go the extra mile. In short, an excellent designer, strong developer, and a great teammate.

I had the pleasure of working directly with Justin on a variety of design and web development projects during his tenure at New West. Justin's talents extend far beyond web design. He offers a great combination of design skills and technical abilities to handle virtually any interactive project that comes his way. Justin continually impressed me with his determination to find good answers to problems, no matter the challenge. Justin would be an asset to any client seeking to strengthen its online brand.

I create the client-side experience for Web-based applications and responsive websites. My primary focus is front-end implementation, but I also have significant background in exploration, wireframing and visual design. I live and breathe JavaScript, striving to truly understand the core language and exercise it through both vanilla development and via popular libraries such as React, Vue or jQuery (although I’m trying to migrate away from jQuery as much as I can). I prefer to run my code through TypeScript and can construct a build system in Webpack, Gulp, Grunt, or even by hand if I really had to. I’ve also written CSS and HTML nearly every day for more than ten years and can convert virtually any design to code. Finally, I am a trained designer, with nearly ten years of experience in print design prior to my transition to front-end development; as a result, I care about how the end result looks and behaves. I've done some back-end as well. I can create a WordPress theme with almost any capability a marketing site might require. After spending hundreds of hours with Ruby on Rails I fully understand the fundamentals of MVC architecture. I've even configured a server or two. Show less

[company now defunct] WhereTheTrucks.at was a mobile food truck finder founded at Startup Weekend Louisville 2013. I created the visual identity for the company and designed the user interface and visual assets for the initial iOS release and an unreleased Android version. Additionally, I developed two different web applications, the first in Laravel and the second in Rails. Finally, I handled creation of any other necessary marketing assets (banners, business cards, etc.) [company now defunct] WhereTheTrucks.at was a mobile food truck finder founded at Startup Weekend Louisville 2013. I designed and developed websites for a variety of clients, using a combination of HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript/jQuery, PHP and various content management systems including WordPress and ExpressionEngine. I occasionally assisted the print designers if they got too busy. I was also the acting IT director — administering a local OS X Server network, maintaining data backups and troubleshooting computer issues. As the sole interactive designer/developer, I designed and built websites, always using valid, handcrafted HTML/CSS and usually using WordPress. Additionally, I designed brands, collateral and print ads; provided art direction for photo and video shoots; and performed necessary IT tasks. [company now defunct] I managed various client accounts; designed print collateral; negotiated print bids; shot and edited video and photography as needed; and developed simple websites. I also performed a variety of administrative tasks such as negotiating and managing print bids, answering incoming calls and assisting with internal data systems.
