Derek Mast, RA
I have worked with Brian on several projects both in and outside of the academic setting. His ability to work with others, self motivation and dedication ensures that the job will get done right. I have always admired Brian’s ability to appropriately challenge ideas/concepts to add substance, clarity and direction to project goals. Further, Brian is always able and willing to voice alternative project solutions.

Initial projects at K2M include light commercial and retail, NASA, Navfac, and other government organizations which involve facility assessments and writing reports based upon those assessments, including historical technical writing, and developing Federal guidelines for post occupancy evaluations. Further into my career at K2M, my project work types shifted into commercial office, restaurants, and hospitality. Hospitality included such hotel brands as Marriott, Hyatt, IHG, and Hilton with more of a focus on customized, detailed "full service" scope focus rather than prototype. Show less

During the economic downturn, I turned to more charitable and local nonprofit causes to continue developing my architectural and design skills. This included web design for local nonprofits; many architectural design competitions; landscape design; builder contractor work; working with Habitat for Humanity; and developing, planning, and constructing mini parks through the Brooklyn Centre neighborhood of Cleveland. Along with three other colleagues, we entered and placed in a Habitat for Humanity design competition awarded at the 2009 Ohio Valley Region AIA Convention. Working with the Cleveland chapter of Habitat for Humanity, at least two versions of the house were constructed in Cleveland. Show less
