Operate independently managing and executing external customer projects. Focusing on exhaust & evaporative emissions testing, vehicle durability & development and various other types of vehicle testing in local or remote settings. Primary contributor from bidding phase through test execution and final report/submission of documents to EPA or CARB. Organization and communication to multiple stakeholders must be maintained throughout. Use knowledge of state and federal regulations along with engineering judgement to help determine test plans, build data acquisition solutions and analyze customer data. Outside of primary responsibilities, must maintain flexibility inside small company. Along with engineering team install and commission AVL 48” 4WD chassis dynamometer. Troubleshoot various lab equipment. Design and build various test rigs as needed. Streamline communication, data analysis and compiling to increase turn around rate. Understand financial implications of projects to ensure we are performing the correct projects at the correct time.

Test Lab Engineer

Support in house brands, Giro Sport Design, Bell Helmets and Bolle, with bicycle, snow, and motorcycle helmet testing along with other product testing (goggles, footwear and accessories). Tests focusing on linear & rotational impact testing, aerodynamic testing, explicit FEA, CFD, and DFMEA. Maintain a high level or organization and manage lab scheduling across multiple groups. Analyze data providing valuable feedback to engineers, designers, and product managers on what changes need to be made to improve product performance in testing. Research and analyze new materials for potential use as impact medium in future products. Design and build test rigs for standardized tests and tests that go beyond standards to analyze metrics determined by engineering, product managers, and marketing staff. - Testing Capabilities added: In-house open loop wind tunnel redesign, Goggle Field of View, Goggle fogging visualization, Carbon fiber outsole linear & rotational stiffness, Thermal properties data analysis, Expansion of explicit FEA use as product development tool early in design process. Outside of primary responsibilities, understand federal and world standards that govern helmet design, testing, QC and manufacturing. Participate in round robin testing and new standard development testing in cooperation with external labs and governing bodies. Perform failure analysis on return helmets in order to recreate impacts/failures in lab setting. Advise QC and Legal departments on risk assessments to potential issues or pending litigation. Use SolidWorks surfacing tools to manipulate 3D scans of clay models to create workable FEA CAD models. Assist marketing with tours of laboratory and events design to inform public about research testing done in-house.

Product Engineer

Under minimal supervision assist R&D design confirmation & testing managers with various projects. Create production drawings and BOMs with both 2D and 3D CAD to be used by manufacturing facility in Mexico & 3rd party vendors. Use implicit & explicit FEA to verify designs of group. Create new test methods for Hyundai Translead trailers to ensure design is strong enough to withstand customer use.
