I recruited and managed Lucille at Restoration Robotics. I could not be more pleased at how things turned out. She has an amazing work ethic, and manages to always get to the heart of the matter, be it a feature, a process, or a tool. Lucille is a stress free person to manage, self directed and always proactively looking to help others and improve the quality of the product. The robot at the center of the offerings at RR is a very complex blend of mechanical, electrical and software components. It takes a unique person to be comfortable with all aspects of the system. Lucille was unfazed by the complexity and demonstrated an ability to divide the whole into subsystems, and zero in on the issue. Her willingness to take on the most difficult assignments made her the go-to person on our test team. I think Lucille is an asset to any organization, and would work with again without hesitation.

While I was not officially Lucille's manager, I worked very closely with her and oversaw many of her projects at Gooru - what a treat that was! Lucille brought such passion and excitement to the office and truly used her internship as a learning opportunity. Interested in honing her skills and learning the most current iterations of web technologies, Lucille always asked thoughtful questions, showing she had done the research to learn as much as possible on her own first. Whenever I offered a solution, she always integrated it into her own work, making sure she understood how the pieces fit together. This is a huge asset - to have a teammate who is so motivated to learn on her own, yet knows when to ask for help and can run with it. During her time at Gooru, Lucille wrote HTML, CSS and JavaScript by hand to match the mocks provided by the design team. Her work was very well written (even with a quick turnaround time) and she welcomed feedback on ways to improve further. When designs changed, she remained enthusiastic and saw each iteration as a new learning challenge. Initially Gooru had asked Lucille to create prototypes for new features, but since the quality of her code was so high, I believe her work will be featured on the landing page in an upcoming release. Although I have since left Gooru, I keep in touch with Lucille because she has been such a wonderful mentee. When you work with someone so dedicated and engaged, you can't help but want to continue the conversation. I know Lucille will go on to do great things and I can't wait to see what's next!
