I am an established and internationally recognised communications and media academic researcher. I work hard to instil a research-led culture and have helped successfully improve the Excellence in Research (ERA) ratings at ECU by one level in each of my two areas of research between 2010 and 2012. With an interdisciplinary approach, I build links and connections to share learning and best practice. I am also an active mentor, and have supervised 17 PhD students two of whom have gone on to be awarded the Faculty Research Medal. Since working at ECU I have successfully bid for over AU$1.72m in research grants. Show less

This included building the role from scratch in a brand new Faculty and setting up systems, processes and management reporting structures during a period of considerable change at the University. In 2005 I was a founder Co-Chief Investigator of the Australian Research Council's Centre of Excellence for Creative Industries and Innovation. I was also invited to become an international advisory panel member for the EU Kids Online initiative leading to parallel reseach and involvement in AU Kids Online. Show less
