I have known Bryan since I first hired him 10 years ago to write and design in the University of Oklahoma's Student Media department. I was eager to hire him then, and I would be equally eager to work with him now. During our time together at The New York Times Editing Center, I watched Bryan maintain his meticulousness as both a designer and a copy editor, even on tight deadlines and under duress. On the occasions I served as slot editor for the wire service, he was one of the editors I most trusted to edit an important story quickly without sacrificing precision. Bryan served in multiple capacities at the Editing Center, editing and designing for multiple Times specialty publications. He likes to say I've mentored him, but I've learned just as much from Bryan. For example, he taught me the ropes of the Large Print Weekly, a publication with a single person editing stories and designing the layout. That experience, specifically, speaks to Bryan's ability as a jack-of-all-trades. But he's also a master of most of those trades. Bryan is a capable and creative designer and a fastidious line editor, as well as a warm and empathetic writer. In working with him over the years, I learned to trust his talent, but also his news judgment and his decision-making. He's also a friend and mentor to those he works with. You'd be lucky to have him (and his green thumb) on your team.

My work at The Times can be seen nationally and abroad in the pages of specialty publications and by the clients of the wire service. — Spending Well Design and edit the weekly, money-focused "The New York Times: Spending Well" product that is inserted in to about a dozen newspapers around the country. Working with existing New York Times content, I trim advice columns and enterprise stories into succinct shorts for business people reading on the go. — News Service Erase any Timesian tendencies from stories and ship them out to wire clients. (It’s required to know the AP Stylebook biblically.) — Large Print Weekly Curate the most vividly narrative stories from the past week and design a 40-page version of The Times geared toward individuals with visual impairments. — International Weekly Design more than 20 editions of The Times that are inserted into newspapers in Europe, Latin America and Asia. Refashion stories that appeal most to an international audience. — Times Digest Hack (with care) stories to fit a 10-page, 8 1/2-by-11 edition. Clients include the U.S. Navy and cruise ships.
