I had the pleasure of working for Joel when he served as Chief Executive Officer of the Military Entrance Processing Station in Dallas, TX. As the Chief Executive of the Amarillo, TX Station, I was the leader of a regional station under Joel's direct management. Without mincing words, Joel is one of the finest leaders under whom I've had the pleasure to serve. He empowered regional managers to make leadership and managerial decisions, while simultaneously maintaining a pulse on each organization. He provided solid guidance, pointed out potential pitfalls before they occurred, and kept his regional leaders aligned to the organization's strategic objectives. Perhaps more importantly, Joel led us to feel and function as a team even though we were separated by hundreds of miles. Servant Leadership isn't a simple moniker for Joel; he really lives it. I would work for him again anytime.

I worked with Joel for two years in Belgium both professionally and as a volunteer in the community. In his professional capacity, Joel managed a large contingent of US personnel in the heart of an international environment. His attention to detail, personal integrity, and hard work were routinely displayed to everyone he served. As a volunteer, Joel gave a great deal of himself to the community. One many occasions, Joel volunteered his time and money leading large groups of youth while traveling across Europe to experience the history and culture of various countries, allowing these children to amazing life experiences while developing their own sense of independence and teamwork. Joel is an outstanding officer and leader. I anticipate he will continue to be a great asset those fortunate enough to work for and with Joel.
