The Orff Schulwerk Approach is a developmental approach used in music education. It combines music, movement, drama, and speech into lessons that are similar to a child's world of play. It was developed by the German composer Carl Orff (1895–1982) and colleague Gunild Keetman during the 1920s. I taught the cadets basic skills in photography, digital and graphic arts as well as basic coding.The National Guard Youth ChalleNGe Program, a preventive rather than remedial at-risk youth 8 week (15 lessons) program, targets participants who are unemployed, drug-free, crime-free high school dropouts, 16 to 18 years of age. With mentorship from professionals in STEAM-related careers, cadets get hands-on experience learning about science, math, engineering, and technology-related careers through media arts; they gain valuable tools for healthy self-expression; and they learn the skills necessary to market themselves as entrepreneurs and valuable employees while receiving support in pursuing higher education and employment.
