I recently worked at Jeptha Creed in Shelbyville, KY as an Assistant Distiller. This has been an interesting position because I have taken on more responsibilities and duties than any other distillery position I’ve ever had. It really is a jack-of-all-positions, position. My day varies day to day but can include one or all of the following: milling grains, cooking multiple mash bills including quite a few different in house and contract whiskey bills, vodka, moonshine and more. Transferring mash to fermentation and doing analysis of ph, sg, and brix, lab distillations, barreling, proofing and cutting totes, distilling using one or all three stills they have including a hybrid pot still, a column still, and a vodka still. Blowing down the boilers at the end of the night and doing all the logs in Stillhouse. I also have a limited experience clocking barrels in the rickhouses and also logging barrel sheets.

    • Tour Guide/Bartender/Brand Ambassador
      • May 2018 - Mar 2019

I had many hats within in the company including but not limited to being one of the first tour guides for the company and giving a few different tours around the property including distillery tours as well as a guided UTV tour through the woods all ending with tastings of a few of our beer and spirits. I have done many of the company’s high profile tours including the first distillery tour for some of the owners and VIPs, a US State Senator, and more. At the Tour and Tasting Center I also worked as a Brand Ambassador and Bartender where customers can come to taste and learn about any of the tapped beers we currently have on, along with the spirits we produce including: an award winning gin, rum, vodka, cinnamon vodka, and our upcoming bourbon. And lastly I sometimes worked at their newest 240-seat restaurant on busy days as a bartender. On any given busy night I can pours hundreds of craft beers, make near 100 hand crafted signature cocktails, all while entertaining and teaching our guests about our products and tours.

    • Assistant Distiller
      • Jun 2017 - Mar 2019

My primary role at the distillery is to assist the master distiller with everything from cooking mash, monitoring fermentation, and learning the distillation process. I also help with bottling, labeling, bartending and doing tours of the distillery. From time to time I also used the forklift and pallet jack to move ingredients, barrels, and tanks around inside the distillery and also to load and unload pallets from delivery trucks. At Bear Wallow, we made a few things: bourbon, rye whiskey, 4 grain whiskey, 3 un-aged whiskey, and a variety of flavored moonshines.

Reality TV can be INSANE and this show was definitely the definition case. Imagine 6 P2 cameras running non stop for 3 months straight shooting and chasing around the country 8 Midget Wrestlers doing whatever they could to earn a professional wrestling contract from non other then wrestling icon Hulk Hogan and things are bound to be a little crazy. Not only was the show insane but managing the media from 56 different P2 cards for 14-18 hours/day was a great challenge but gave me a great worse case scenario and really helped hon a much needed skill set.... FILE MANAGEMENT.
