I was fortunate enough to work alongside Geoff for a number of years while he was with CMG. During this period I observed him demonstrate a very thorough working knowledge of the Citrix suite of technologies. He was also the go to guy for anything Active Directory and Group Policy related as well. Geoff is very customer-centric and always ensured his user base felt they were well supported with someone there to help them should they require it. He was also a great person to have in the team as he would always help you out with anything he could.

When it comes to Citrix deployments Geoff is meticulous in his attention to all the technical details that a solid Citrix deployment demands. Geoff knows all the areas that require special attention, such as the requirements for building scalable toplogies, WAN traffic considerations, printing challenges, options for tiered application farms, 32-bit versus 64-bit architectures and more. Also on the end user side Geoff is a great guy to send out into the field to sit and work with stakeholders and talk to them about their technology challenges. When it comes to deploying Citrix Geoff will win the trust of the user community and guide them through the Citrix journey.

Starting with IMC Communications (later bought by Ricoh) as a contracted Systems Engineer - through a sub-contracted arrangement through Simplicity Solutions - I've designed, implemented, and managed projects for many customers, across a number of technologies. Over the years I've had the opportunity to work with a number of entities spreading across areas in charity, small and medium business, through to global corporations. My primary accountability is the desktop delivery architecture; my first responsibility was to design, build and deliver a new desktop delivery model, to service over 1000 staff members, and to have this in place within three months due to deadlines of an adjacent project; this was achieved with time to spare. Further, I have taken lead, or been heavily involved, with other projects such as Citrix Branch Repeater deployments, data centre design and relocation, and load balancing proof of concepts with the Citrix Netscaler product range. A summary of my achievements while at CMG: * a successful design and migration of all staff sessions from a Citrix Presentation Server 4.0 environment to a Citrix XenApp 6.0 environment that dramatically increased staff experience, and therefore acceptance, of IT delivery; * the virtualisation of the desktop delivery architecture that decreased the time to provision and increased the businesses ability to meet demand during a time of aggressive expansion; * a high availability design and implementation for remote access, using Citrix Netscaler appliances, to replace the previous aging equipment; * heavily involved in a proof of concept, using Citrix Branch Repeaters, in an effort to increase staff experience in remote and global sites; currently these have been rolled out to sites in the Asian market and they’ve made a significant difference in both increased staff acceptance and decreased networking costs; * elected representative on CMG’s main initiative, WoRC+; a customer relationship system. With this responsibility, I collaborated with the WoRC+ project team and assisted by commenting, advising and evaluating design decisions to ensure the appropriate infrastructure was in place.

My role at The IT Consultancy Group (ITCG) was varied as the work would change depending on what the customer required; this required effective time management and an ability to communicate efficiently with business managers at all levels. The main focus of my employment was to develop the hosted desktop service (DaaS), based on Citrix technology, that ITCG offer their customers and to design, implement and handover similar solutions for those customers who preferred to host their environment themselves. While at ITCG I also took on the responsibility for the Dell Kace (KBox) systems management appliances and as such became the primary trainer for new customers; further to this I was also heavily involved with the Cymphonix Network Composer appliance which allows for greater management and optimization of Internet traffic while shielding from connection risks.

During my time at OCL I was tasked with resolving issues in the design and implementation of their single forest/multi-domain Active Directory network; this involved discovery as no handover was offered due to a breakdown of contract with a previously employed technology outfit. My other achievements while at OCL were the design and implementation of a data protection system that scaled up to 15TB, assisting in the design of management systems including HP Insight Manager and Microsoft SCOM, and designing a proof of concept for application delivery using Citrix Presentation Server.

In this contract position I was employed to lead and assist the existing Infrastructure Engineers in resolving the performance issues of the corporate network with emphasis being placed on the Citrix Presentation Server network, correcting issues in the Windows 2003 Active Directory design including OU structure, authentication and group policy, and to recommend and implement a more agile and better featured web security solution; during this time I was also heavily involved in assisting the Nacro team to take their first steps into virtualisation and scoping shared storage solutions.

This role involved optimising and maintaining the company’s current computer systems to support organisational and divisional business activities, goals and objectives. I have successfully evaluated, designed and implemented numerous systems that either replaced or enhanced an existing system. Outcomes after these projects included benefits such as improved efficiency, increased reliability and most importantly cost savings for the company. Some of these projects included designing and implementing CSPL’s first Active Directory deployment running on Windows Server 2000, which was later upgraded to Windows Server 2003. Designing and implementing a Citrix MetaFrame XPe farm which was later upgraded to v3.0, v4.0 and then v4.5. Designed the workstation and server SOE’s, company wide printing solutions and implemented the web and email security systems. For a period of twelve months between 2002 and 2003 I also took on the Network Administrator role while a colleague was away on maternity leave; in this time I recommended and implemented a Frame-Relay networking solution for the company’s WAN requirements, which also included a national remote access facility.

This role involved supporting client desktops, laptops and all peripherals. I became the preferred point of contact for senior management over other colleagues. The development of applications during this position has given me a good grounding in both the hardware and software sides of Information Technology. * Developed applications, according to specification, for the many different business groups. * Provided PC support, at all levels, for the many different business groups.
