  Parauapebas is a Brazilian municipality in the state of Pará created on May 10, 1988 and with 213,576 inhabitants. With the discovery of one of the largest mineral reserves in the world in Serra dos Carajás in the 1960s and the right granted to the company Vale S.A. by the Brazilian Governmet to explore iron ore, gold and manganese on the spot, Vale S.A. built the basic infrastructure for work in the locality, incluiding school, hospital, airport and since then the locality has grown and became the city of Parauabepas.   The Vale Zoo and Botanical Park (PZV) was inaugurated in March 1985 and occupies an area in the Amazon Forest of 30 hectares, located in the heart of the Carajás National Forest, which is a Federal Conservation Unit preserved and supervised by the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio), with support from Vale. The PZV currently maintains a herd of more than 270 animals native to the Amazon region, which are divided into sectors by species such as: cats, pigs, tapirs, iraras, cracids, psittasides, birds and predators. The project developed in the PZV was: The obligatory supervised curricular internship aimed to follow the routine of a zoo, improving theoretical and practical knowledge about animal management. This was carried out in the birds of prey sector, at PZV, Carajás, Pará, Brazil. Four species of birds of prey were followed, namely Harpy eagle, King Vulture, White-tailed Hawk and Spectacled Owl, from clinical treatment, reproductive, nutritional, sanitary management, including the welfare of these animals and environmental education aimed at the population.
