  I switched into a new role with the Gates Center for Regenerative Medicine. Like my previous position I have both an administrative role where I manage my laboratory's inventory, equipment, chemical waste, and finances and an academic research role studying patient derived stem cells (iPSC's).

  As a PRA, I perform the majority of the wet research for my PI’s projects. This includes routine PCR, qPCR, tissue culture, Western blots, sectioning slides for IF/IHC, staining for IF/IHC, viral transduction, quantification of PCR, qPCR, and Western blot results, and mouse colony management. In addition to these duties, I also bear the responsibility of being lab manager for my PI's lab, which involves managing chemical wastes, chemical and supply inventory, purchasing, managing lab protocol and stock databases, and facilitating shared equipment repair and maintenance with other team members.

  Like the Student Lab Assistant I position, I was still in charge of keeping the lab clean and functioning. But as a Student Assistant IV I inherited new responsibilities including stepping into research. I was tasked with helping genotype mice, culture bacterial plates, and make plasmids. I also helped manage new student workers helping with lab maintenance and duties.
